Dancing into December
December 11, 2024
As I was planning to craft a soliloquy on being ghosted, “no shows,” and missed appointments, my thought process was intercepted by “don’t be a downer, especially at this time of year.” Instead shift the theme to one of gratitude, and the many thanks you have.
And it has been a remarkably enjoyable and successful year!
· Professionally I have encountered numerous remarkable clients in my journey as an executive, career, and leadership development coach. I have witnessed breakthroughs and “aha” moments and celebrated personal attainments and milestones with so many of these folks.
And I get paid to work with them!
· I fulfilled a dream by becoming a published author, an attainment that I’m told 81% of us have considered, yet less than 3% achieve. It feels good to finally be top 3% in something!
I had one of my readers comment that she had lent her copy to a cohort. He read a few chapters and handed it back to her claiming it “was too ‘happy.’” That’s a criticism I’m pleased to accept!
· I continue to be employed in a part-time capacity by ESPN, a company that has treated me remarkably well for many, many years, providing me with front row access to sports history in a variety of endeavors: football, basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer. It is a ride for which I’ve been immeasurably blessed, and I don’t take for granted that my assignments are envied.
· As 2025 rolls around I am excited about opportunities in group coaching and employee development that are ahead. I have a goal to record my book in audio format. I am already witnessing evidence of the degree that publication can serve as a business tool.
· On a personal note, my wife Cindy and I welcomed our seventh grandchild in October. Our own kids are self-reliant and navigating early adulthood facing the challenges of managing households while approaching mid-career.
Cindy and I also enjoyed an eight-day European cruise in July. While there we celebrated our 44th anniversary. Our health remains good, and we are fortunate to both enjoy thriving businesses. As we age, so far, although we have our share of aches, pains, and ailments, we remain optimistic about what lies ahead.
Again, I’ll save the more business-like piece for next time. Instead, I wrap with a piece I shared a few years back that never fails to put a smile on my face and brighten my mood; I hope it does the same for you.
For each of my readers I wish you peace, prosperity, hope, joy, and the best ever celebration of Christmas, the holiday season, and the start of a New Year!
